Marking The End of Twenty Fifteen; A Review Of The Year

2015
So, I am writing this post after a massive 'Spring' clean of the house, ready for what the New Year will bring, and of course reflecting on the one just passed. I can confidently say I have quite enjoyed 2015. Of course no year is without its ups and downs, but it really hasn't been all that bad.

My New Years Resolutions For 2016

This post is pretty self explanatory. I am usually not one for breaking resolutions as I tend to only set ones I think I will stick to. Like, flossing every single day. Stupid, I know, but I have pretty much stuck to it this year and I am proud as punch!

My Beauty Products of 2015

With 2015 soon coming to an end I thought I would do my 2015 beauty picks. Now, I have loved a lot of products this year but these are the absolute game changers for me.

My December Lipstick Pick

I love a good lipstick as much as the next Beauty Blogger. Being quite new to wearing lipsticks I thought I would do a post on favourite winter lipstick colour.

My Nail Care Tips & Tricks

SensatioNail LED Gel Primer Kit
I think it is safe to assume that I love giving myself mani/pedi's. I have been using SensatioNail for over a year now and I can't even imagine going back to normal nail polish now, although Essie colours tempt me on a regular basis.

It's Hard Being A Woman; A Smear Test Uncovered

Well, it's true though, isn't it? We have the babies, the periods and the mounting pressure of having the most on point eyebrows. This week I had my second cervical screening (formerly known as a smear test) of my life, and I just thought it would make quite an interesting and informative blog post and miles different from my upcoming Christmas ones. So apologies beforehand if you are easily squeamish. You have been warned!

My Weekend Rituals

I thought I would do a post on weekends, and my top picks for what I like to do on them. I absolutely adore my weekends. It's my time to catch up on everything I haven't had time to do during the week because of work etc.

Can't Live With 'Em

Can't live without them.. well, I can, but only for a night or two tops. I was going to do a moaning post on how annoying he is when he leaves his socks in the bed, or doesn't tidy up after himself, but then I thought I would go in a completely different direction and do a post about the necessity of 'me' time, and the top 10 things we (I) do when we are given the night off from our other half.

Driving Miss Daisy; What To Do In An Accident

So, I was recently in my first car accident. Completely not my fault! I was just unlucky enough to be in front of someone who ran a red light, who wasn't paying attention, and didn't stop in time. It was like being in a bumper car. I actually couldn't believe it at first, and thought it might have been someone else. However, realisation quickly dawned. But, I mean, what do you do in this situation? When you are learning to drive, you aren't taught what to do in in this sort of crisis. I guess it's kind of counter intuitive to talk about crashing when you are still only learning!

Sharing My Shelves: #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso

I know, I am a bit late getting this post out. I still need to review my last read 'After You' by Jojo Moyes. And can you believe I have gone and started another book too? I have also been reading the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas on my commute, as I have those books to hand on my Kindle.

Recipe: Comforting Cherry & Vanilla Madeira Cake

Winter is officially upon us, therefore it is time to break out the comfort food, not that I ever needed an excuse to eat cake before! This is a lovely, simple recipe and very filling. I have been wanting to make a Madeira cake in ages, I love how dense it is compared to a Victoria Sponge, I guess I was just looking for the right recipe.

It's Just A Little Frosting

I love buying jewellery. (I love it even more if it is bought for me) I definitely think it is a woman's prerogative to be treated to something sparkly at least twice a year (Birthdays and Christmas of course, anything more then that is just a bonus!) I get an extra special tingly feeling whenever I get a new piece. I can be quite picky though, and I usually only go for lighter metals such as silver/white gold/platinum and rose gold. I am not so much a yellow gold type of gal, but I never say never when it comes to frosting.

Autumn Loves

I thought I would dedicate this post to Autumn, and what I have loved most about this season, and what better time to do it than Halloween. I love nothing more than curling up on the sofa under my twinkling pumpkin fairy lights, hot chocolate in hand, and log burner crackling away.

I found this graffiti in the middle of the pavement in Brooklyn and loved it. I thought it would make quite an apt image for writing about coping mechanisms, and particularly mine when I am upset, or things just aren't going as planned.

Sharing My Shelves: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Published by Penguin Books.
 Rating: /5

I was so excited to start this book, but unfortunately it took me quite a while to get into it. Whether that has something to do with outside influences, I don't know. In the end I actually really enjoyed it. The story wasn't what I expected, and I think that is why I struggled with it in the beginning. This being said, I did love it. It was definitely an interesting re-envisioning of the fairy tale classic, 'Cinderella', but there was only very few references to it, and they were obscure ones at that. For example, at the end of the book as Cinder is trying to escape the palace she loses her Cyborg leg instead of the traditional glass slipper.

October's Birchbox 2015

I love receiving my Birchbox, it's my favourite time of the month. I had just gotten back from New York when I received mine in the post, and I literally delved into it and used it all in one go! I think it is safe to say I loved everything that was in it. Especially the When Travel Mate Sheet Mask. It was just so perfect, and definitely needed after all the travelling I had done the previous week.

New York, New York (Part 2)

Empire State Building Viewing Platform
In my first post I covered days 1 and 2. Hopefully, this post will cover the majority of the rest! So, on the Wednesday, after getting up at stupid o'clock again, we visited the Empire State Building. Luckily, the hotel was situated just one block up and around the corner.

You Need To Be More Like Her

Me on top of the Empire State Building
Other people's expectations, we have all been at the receiving end of them at some point in our lives, and if not, you luckily have them to look forward to. I think now at 30, I am susceptible to them more then ever, but I would like to think I am becoming more adept at managing them. I mean, who hasn't heard 'So and so is on their second child...so, are kids on your agenda?' Roughly translated to 'Gosh! Are you ever going to settle down, and WHEN?'

What's In My Handbag #1

Dooney & Bourke
I love my handbag, so I thought I would do a feature on it. I don't know how men can just carry around a wallet with them and they feel like they have everything they need?! I am not happy unless I have 'everything but the kitchen sink' along with me, and I have always believed you can never plan for too many eventualities.

New York, New York (Part 1)

Statue of Liberty
So, New York was as amazing as I thought it would be. I would quite happily up sticks in England and go and live there. There was so much diversity, literally you would want for nothing. I have been debating on how I was going to write about this trip purely because there is just so much to cover. In the end I decided to do it in parts.

The Next 5 Things On My Netflix

Netflix

I'm still suffering from this rotten cold so I haven't really been able to do much apart from stay in bed and watch Netflix! I don't know about the rest of you but I always find watching a good TV series quite cathartic. I definitely have my go-to series that never fail to make me feel better. Miranda, Friends and Sex and the City to name but a few.

Interview Ettiquette 101

So, if you have been for as many interviews as I have then you can't help but notice a certain pattern emerging. I am 30 now and you are probably thinking why don't I have a carefully thought out career path by now? Believe me, that is what EVERYONE thinks and when you get to my age there is no hiding that opinion. But the very simple answer is; I don't actually know what I want to do yet! However, I quite like being a 'Jack of all trades' as the saying goes.

Sharing My Shelves: The Martian by Andy Weir

Rating: 4heartrating/5
I love reading, it is one of my few passions. In my opinion there is nothing better than curling up with a good book and escaping the humdrum of life. Fiction is my favourite, any kind of fiction really. When I lived in London I worked at Foyles as a Children's Book Specialist (Best job for a bookworm like myself!) I predominantly read YA titles and I still do every so often. They hold a very strong place in my heart. I am hoping the Literary Review will become a staple on the blog. If you are interested in what I am reading now or what's on my booklist, add me on Goodreads.
