A Trip to Alton Towers.

Alton Towers
Do you know, I hadn't been to Alton Towers in nearly 20 years? I know! Crazy! Considering it is only 'down the road' I thought we should rectify this situation.

Recently, I have been getting more and more into theme parks, not necessarily the rides because I am not the biggest thrill seeker, but just the whole ambiance, and vivacity of the place.

We decided to make the most of our 'holiday' and stay over (not at Alton Towers itself - too pricey!!), just because we figured we wouldn't get everything done in one day, and we were right! I can honestly say that Alton Towers is so much more than rollercoasters and vomit inducing waltzers. The landscape, castle, and gardens is just incredible and so vast. The park itself is so big, I could have just walked around there for hours. We were also blessed with the best weather too, but that didn't stop me from raiding the clothing merch...

Alton Towers
It's all so family friendly, clean and excellently themed. CBeebies Land was incredible, I would love to take Phoebe there when she is a little bit older. My favourite ride had to be Dual though, it just reminded me so much of a much darker Space Ranger Spin.

Although, with every positive there are a (good) few negatives. We split our days over a weekend and a weekday, and whereas the weekend was absolutely fine, the weekday was absolutely horrific. I honestly didn't see myself writing such a 'review' but I think it's important, for the sake of clarity, that I should say what I saw... And that was gangs of school kids, not in their uniforms, unsupervised, spewing, actual fistfights between rival schools, and queue cutting.

Everything was at capacity and was so raucous.

Alton Towers
The staff did no better. Other than being queue jumped by not one, but 3 people which was actually witnessed by a team member who didn't say anything. I saw one member of staff give away the largest of stuffed animals on a carnival game to a pair who had 'spent enough' and had not necessarily won. Is that normal? Please correct me if that sort of con artist behaviour is what happens.

Alton Towers
I was so disappointed, it ruined our second day and we ended leaving early just to get away from the chaos, and by chaos I mean absolute carnage. The whole atmosphere had changed, and to be honest, the lack of supervision and basic manners of these sugar hyped teenagers made it unbearable, and noisy. Oh! The noise!

I know, I'm getting cantankerous in my old age.

Alton Towers
It was just so unnecessary, but I am thinking it will be a good 20 years before I feel like I'd like to visit Alton Towers again, that's for sure!
